Despite the fact that all modern laptops and smartphones have a Bluetooth communication module, this technology is not used every day. Especially when compared with Wi-Fi. Therefore, it is not surprising that sometimes we just do not even know where to find this icon and how to include it.
If you want to establish a Bluetooth connection with some kind of fitness bracelet or similar gadget, then often the process is taken under the control of the software of this device, which will tell you what to do.
But if, for example, you want to transfer a couple of files from another device, then you can use the standard tools of Windows 10. This is done very simply.
In the lower right corner of the screen of your device (it can be a computer, laptop or tablet) is an icon in the form of a message. After you click on it, the pop-up “Notification Center” panel will appear to the right, and below it there will be an icon with the inscription “Bluetooth”. It is enough to click on it and the corresponding module will work.
But do not rush to rejoice. Not always after that, you will be able to find your device on Windows 10 in the active list and try, for example, to receive or transfer files. Firstly, it may not be specifically displayed. Then you need to select the “Options” item in the “Start” menu in the lower left corner of the screen.
In the opened window, click the “Devices” icon, then find the “Bluetooth” on the left in the list. The list is small and all items are as in the palm of your hand.
Bluetooth settings appear before you. Below you find and click “Other Bluetooth settings”. The next menu will open, in it you need to check the first item – “Allow Bluetooth devices to detect this computer”.
Now we need to do another useful thing: rename our module so as not to confuse later with other computers and not to try to send your photos to strangers. To do this, go to the “Hardware” tab, among the listed items, choose your Bluetooth-module. A normal sane person does not need to know which transmitter model is installed in his laptop, so refer to the names of Intel, Dell, Qualcomm or Broadcom in the device name. Click on it with the mouse, and then click on the “Properties” button below. Again, a new menu opens and in it you need to click on “Change settings”. Yes, another menu will open, but the last one. In it you need to select the “Advanced” tab – there will be a field with the name of the device, which is easy to change.
Everywhere, click “OK” until you return to “Manage Bluetooth devices.” At the bottom there will be the message “Sending or receiving files via Bluetooth”. In the next new window you will have to choose, you want to accept files or transfer. Choose to accept and only then send the file from your smartphone. At the end of the transfer, the system will ask us carefully where to save it.
The next time you turn on Bluetooth, you can find its blue icon in the lower right corner of the screen (system tray), right-click on the icon and see the cherished items “Send file” and “Transfer file”.
